Gnome Digital's principal owner, Bruce Nazarian is a highly experienced Sound Supervisor, and a forward thinker in Digital Sound. He designed and commissioned the building of the Magnolia Studios' THX-certified Film and TV dubbing stages, each of which was configured as a "Virtual Mixing" stage. Construction of Stage A was accomplished by General Contractor Steven Klein, of Sound Control Room, Sherman Oaks, CA (818) 788-1238. Steve also consulted on the interior design and the acoustic considerations. Room designs were provided by Lucas THX Division, and acoustic consulting provided by Veneklasen and Associates of Santa Monica, CA.
Magnolia's Stage A, a 44-by-33 foot Dubbing Stage, with a two story vertical height is capable of projecting both 35mm film and NTSC Television pictures, while simultaneously synchronizing Multitrack Tape Machines, 35mm mag playback dummies and recorders, DA-88 recorders and digital sound editing systems, for a complete "Virtual Mixing" environment. Stage A was one of the first commercially available all-format digital dubbing stages capable of handling any client's format. Stage A ranks as one of the finest independently-owned mixing stages in Southern California.
Gnome Digital's "Virtual Mixing" environment puts digital sound editing systems right on the mixing stage to playback the edited sound effects, dialogue, ADR, music, Foley, and anything else live during the mix. This methodology allows for much faster corrections or changes during the mix, as well as unprecedented speed in mixing.
